LETS
courses, lasting two weeks each, run throughout the year. During these courses English is
the only language used. Each student has the total attention of an experienced English
teacher; this is called one-to-one teaching. To give variety and also
experience in understanding different voices, there is a different teacher morning and
afternoon, and on several evenings students will meet other English-speaking people.
Each student has an individual
study-bedroom in a comfortable hotel in Central London. Away from the
distractions of work, family and your own language, you will find a relaxed, friendly,
hard-working atmosphere in which students and teachers can dedicate themselves to the intensive
study of English.

LETS INTENSIVE COURSES HAVE BEEN DEVISED FOR BUSY MEN AND
WOMEN WHO CAN ONLY SPARE A SHORT TIME TO LEARN ENGLISH
These people need to learn the maximum
amount of English in the minimum amount of time. Total immersion in the
language is the only way to achieve this. That is exactly what we offer by surrounding you
with English people in an English atmosphere.
We teach not only General
and Business and Professional English, but also Social
English, which is essential for dealing with foreign customers.
THE SUCCESS OF ALL OUR COURSES HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE CLOSE CO-OPERATION BETWEEN
STUDENT AND TEACHER WHICH OUR ONE-TO-ONE METHOD ENCOURAGES
The one-to-one method is effective
because it allows:
flexibility
personal attention
less exposure to other students'
mistakes and accents
concentration on the difficulties
caused by your own language in learning English (Language Interference)
total student-teacher co-operation for
best results
the opportunity to teach you in the
way best suited to your personality and to
treat you as an adult.
Duration of the LETS Course
The course begins at 5 p.m. on the first
Sunday with a short meeting with one of the Directors to discuss the course in greater
detail. Teaching ends at 3 p.m. on the second Friday when students normally do their final
test. Public holidays are regarded as normal working days.
Vocabulary Tapes
Every day your teachers will record
words and phrases that you have found difficult during the day. In this way we provide you
with cassettes full of your personal English problems which you can take home with you.
Visits
It is often a good idea in the second week
for a student to spend an afternoon away from the study room on a visit with a teacher to
a place of special interest. If you know of a place you would particularly like to visit,
please tell us when you send your application form and we will do our best to arrange it.
The Daily Programme (Monday to Friday)
is designed to give intensive study but at the same time to offer the
student variety. In the afternoon Business English is normally studied, but this can be
changed to suit a student's needs. Private study periods are included in the full
programme; they are important because they permit a student to absorb new material.
Homework
A good deal of homework is given to help
reinforce what has been taught during the day. Time for learning new words is also given.
Listening to a TV programme is usually a part of the homework.
Evening Activities
Information about English customs and
behaviour will be given. You will also meet other people and learn the importance of
knowing Social English, which is so necessary when dealing with English-speaking
customers.
Weekends
Students arrive on the first Sunday.
After being greeted by one of the Directors at 5 p.m., they are free for the rest of the
day. During the middle weekend students are expected to spend one whole day preparing for
and completing the weekend test; this test is based on the week's work. The other day is
free because, in our experience, a student following an intensive course of this type
benefits from a day's relaxation before the second week begins. Many of our students
prefer to leave on the last Friday evening, but rooms may be used until 12.00 noon on
Saturday.
